Giant multinational car manufacturers are putting your safety at risk – for profit. LFG has identified a weakness in seatbelt warning beep systems: namely, they do not randomise and dis-harmonise their notes, preferring cheaper, more regular electronic beeping systems which leaves them vulnerable to masking by careful choice of music. For example, in the Volkswagen Up! the seatbelt warning can be very efficiently masked by Joni Mitchell’s Big Yellow Taxi:
