You may have seen the news that anti-fracking film-makers in the US have been ‘caught out’ accepting money from Middle East Oil interests. Shocking stuff! But hang on… Didn’t Matt Damon predict this scenario in his Hollywood blockbuster ‘Promised Land’?
As I recall, in the movie Matt plays a man from a fracking company come to tear up the land but is opposed by environmentalists led by a character called Dustin Noble. However, it turns out Noble’s ignoble aim is actually to have himself exposed as paid for by Big Oil, so as to discredit the very environmental group he leads. In other words Noble is a plant. What better way to discredit the environmental movement than to reveal its filthy dealings with industry?
Call me cynical, but I wonder about this ‘sting’. Who are these people accepting money from Sheikh Muhammad? Who is ‘Ed Begley Jr’? Who is ‘Josh Tickell’? His name is the amalgamation of two well known methods of eliciting laughter. Is someone having a laugh? I suspect they are and these fellas are stooges every bit as much as ‘Dustin Noble’.
